Summary

OpenScribe is a free app built for the community. It does not collect, track, sell, or share any personal information. There are no analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no user accounts. Everything the app does happens on your device.

If you read nothing else, read this: I do not collect any data about you.

Who I am

OpenScribe is developed and published by Warren Ahner as an individual, independent developer. I am the sole party responsible for the app. I am not a company, and I do not operate any servers that receive your data.

Information I collect

None.

The app does not collect, store on any server, or transmit:

• Personal information (name, email address, phone number, contacts).
• Account or login information — there are no accounts.
• Location data.
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA) or any device identifiers used for tracking.
• Usage analytics, crash analytics, or telemetry.
• Cookies or similar tracking technologies.

I have not integrated any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs into the app.

How the app works (on-device processing)

OpenScribe performs its work locally on your device. To provide its core features, the app may request your permission to access the microphone so it can record and transcribe audio.

• Audio you record and the transcripts the app produces are processed on your device.
• This content is not uploaded to me or to any third party, and it never leaves your device through the app.
• Any recordings, transcripts, or related files are stored locally on your device and remain under your control.

Because this processing happens on-device, I never see, receive, or have access to your recordings or transcripts.

How your data is stored and deleted

Any content the app creates is stored locally on your device. You can delete this content at any time from within the app, and you can remove all app data by deleting the app from your device. Standard iOS backups (such as iCloud Backup or encrypted device backups) are controlled by your own device and iCloud settings, not by me, and are subject to Apple’s privacy practices.

Permissions the app may request

The app may ask for the following iOS permissions, which you can grant or deny at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security:

• Microphone — used solely to record audio for transcription on your device.
• Speech Recognition — used to convert your recorded audio into text. This transcription is performed on your device, and your audio and transcripts are not sent to me.
• Files / storage access — used only if you choose to export a transcript or recording. This lets the app save the file to a location you select (for example, the Files app or another destination you pick). The app accesses files only when you initiate an export and does not browse or transmit your files otherwise.

The app only requests permissions needed for features you choose to use, and it functions without sending any data off the device.

Third-party services

OpenScribe does not use third-party advertising networks, analytics providers, or data brokers. The app is distributed through Apple’s App Store; Apple may collect certain information as part of operating the App Store (for example, download and purchase records) under Apple’s Privacy Policy. I do not receive any personally identifying information from these processes.

Children’s privacy

OpenScribe does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children. The app does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction) because it does not collect personal data from any user.

Your rights

Because I do not collect or hold any of your personal data, there is nothing for me to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. You remain in full control of all content on your own device. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; those rights are satisfied here by the fact that no personal data is collected or processed by me.

Changes to this policy

If I make changes to this Privacy Policy, I will update the “Last updated” date above and post the revised policy at this same URL. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
